Pressure-energy recovery
Recover energy at network interfaces and industrial gas-delivery points while maintaining downstream gas requirements.
Industrial consumers
Convert gas pressure energy and available industrial waste heat into electricity at gas transmission interfaces, pressure-reduction stations and industrial supply points.

The opportunity
Where gas pressure is reduced before downstream use, WEX²® recovers a significant part of the available pressure energy to generate electricity. The turboexpander converts over 80% of the available gas expansion energy into shaft power. Available industrial waste heat is transferred to the gas upstream of expansion to increase electrical output. Flow, pressure difference and operating hours determine the power and annual energy recovered.
How WEX²® worksRecover energy at network interfaces and industrial gas-delivery points while maintaining downstream gas requirements.
Integrate available industrial waste heat through the feed-gas heater and convert it into additional electrical power.
Use recovered electricity on site or assess export through the facility’s electrical connection.
Project development
A project-specific assessment establishes recoverable power, process effects and the preferred integration concept.
Gas consumption, power demand and operating hours must be assessed together.
The value of recovered cooling or integrated heat depends on temperature levels and compatible users.
Protection, grid requirements, site demand and the route for recovered power define the electrical scope.
Delivery
Operator-owned integration or Energy-as-a-Service may suit an industrial project. The appropriate model depends on the asset, energy offtake and agreed responsibilities.
