A New Method for Conserving Energy in Gas Production Plants by Wellstream Expansion and Waste Energy Extraction.
The technical paper provides a reference for discussions of the WEX²® concept. Use the publisher’s page to access the publication and its full technical basis.
The central opportunity
Gas production facilities often need to reduce incoming gas pressure. Controlled expansion through a turboexpander-generator recovers a significant part of that energy as electrical power. The turboexpander converts over 80% of the available gas expansion energy into shaft power to drive the generator.
The integration matters
Pressure and gas flow establish the energy available for recovery. Gas composition, outlet conditions, heat supply, operating range and facility interfaces define the system design.
For a project discussion, WellPower develops a case-specific assessment of the process configuration and complete facility energy balance.
